The Casale, originally built in the 1800’s, has been lovingly reconstructed recently by the owner/architect. It is conveniently located in the northwest corner of Umbria, meeting point with Tuscany and Lazio. The property lies on the hillside (+320 m) and has a breathtaking view of Tiber River Valley, the Castello di Poggio, the antique town of Guardea (which is a 15 minute walk on the winding road lined by Etruscan caverns) and our olive grove from which we produce our own extra virgin olive oil in the DOP region. The Casale has a large “piazza” in front with an open view of the valley where it's convenient for relaxing and enjoying the sunset with an aperitif or your meals beside the rose garden under the giant elm tree. � AddressStrada della Bandita, Poggio di Guardea, Umbria, Italy Accommodation & Outdoor AmenitiesThe swimming pool is 13 x 6 meters surrounded by olive trees and boasts a spectacular view of the Valley below and is exposed to the sun from sunrise to sunset. Underwater illumination gives notturnal swimming an unforgettable esperience. The two story house is composed on the ground floor with an entry hall with staircase, a large dining room with fireplace (table seats 12), large professional kitchen with fireplace/grill and panoramic window of castle and Rose garden. The Rose Bedroom with 1 double or 2 single beds with en-suite bathroom with large shower (all with a valley view) and a panoramic terrace of 20 sq. meters. Take the staircase to the first floor and you have a choice of entering into the living room (large with high ceilings) with an antique fireplace, which is joined by the Saffron Bedroom with 1 matrimonial baldacchino bed (valley view) and also joins 1 large bathroom with bathtub (with a view onto the olive grove) or you can enter into the reading room (pool-lawn view) which is adjacent to the Blue Bedroom with 1 matrimonial baldacchino bed with an en-suite bathroom with shower (all with castle-pool view). From the reading room you take the stairs up to the second floor where you enter into the Sage Suite with 1 matrimonial bed (elm tree view), en-suite large bathroom with bathtub (castle and valley view), an adjoining bellevue meditation space. Outside the villa in the tecnical room you will find a washer and dryer, clothesline and ironing board. Linens and towels as well as pool towels are provided. The villa is reconstructed with its' original stones and a ventilated roof in order to save energy. It is naturally cool in the summer and warm in winter. Windows are of chestnut and have protection screens. All bathrooms are new and fully equipped with Stark Duravit sanitary. In front of the villa is a "piazza" where you can eat outdoors and have a BBQ which is provided. Some bicycles are provided as well as a pool table. In the garden you'll enjoy the shade of our antique elm, almond and gelsi trees. You can enjoy our new and antique collection of roses and cook with our rosemary, sage, thyme, myrtle, mint plants. Don't be surprised to see especially at night our local neighbors, wild boar, porcupine, badgers but please don't disturb our hedgehogs. In June at night we have the presence of light bugs (June bugs) and all year long we are blessed by the view of the stars. Local Amenities and ActivitiesGuardea is a 15 minute walk where you can find supermarkets as well as local produce. There are also "Sagras" in the piazza in the summertime where you can meet local people, eat regional cooking and enjoy music and dance. Upon group requests we also provide professionals for the architectural,art, natural history tours, literary classes for Dante and Italian language classes, as well as cooking classes for local cuisine. Cooks are available for ordering local cuisine or a delicious barbeque meal can be arranged. We recommend the Slow Food “Giubbini” pastry/coffee shop in Guardea for a relaxing “colazione” or you can request homemade tea cakes made my the owner. You will find our extra virgin olive oil in the kitchen during your stay which we also sell to our clients. Day trips: Umbria:Orvieto, Todi, Assisi, Deruta, Spoleto, Gubbio, Perugia. Lazio: Rome, Bomarzo, Bagnoregio, Viterbo, Capranica, Villa d’Este, Papal Villas. Tuscany: Siena, Pitigliano, Sorano, Lake Bolsena, Lubriano, Maremma seaside and sur-roundings are within 150 km.
Check in / Check out timesThe villa is rented on a weekly basis, from Saturday to Saturday. Check out at 10.00 AM latest, check in at 16.00 earliest. Late arrivals must arrange beforehand. Airports / Sea Ports / Other TransportTrain Stations: Orvieto (20min), Rome (1 hr), Florence (1.5 hr). Car transport is available. Airports: Rome (2 hrs), Perugia (1.5hr), Pisa (3hrs), Milano (4.5 hr); Car rental service is availa-ble. Auto: Orvieto exit from the A1 Highway is a 20 minute drive. Attigliano exit is a 30 minute drive.
Driving directions (from airport or sea port)From the A1 Autostrada del Sole from the north you exit at Orvieto and follow directions to Todi, Guardea, Amelia. When you pass over the bridge and find a fork in the road go to the right towards Amelia, Baschi, Terni. After you pass Tenaglia and a road leading to Madonna del Porto,after the sign on your right "Casaline" take the first right BEFORE arriving to Guardea and you will be on the Strada della Bandita. We are the second and last house in stone on your left.
